She loves the art of storytelling and using music as a medium to communicate feelings that are commonly expressed during the human experience. Although, it can be overwhelming at times.
“My favorite part about being a musician is being able to create whatever I want, whenever I want, but that’s also my least favorite part about being a musician. Sometimes, my ideas are endless and having too many options during the creative process.”
During Brianna’s undergrad studies, she started off as a Music Education major before switching to Vocal Performance. In her free time, she learned how to play piano, guitar, and electric bass.
“My music making process typically starts out with lyrics, or at least a partial lyric. Once I get an idea for the tone of voice and mood, I start listening for sounds and instruments that emulate the emotion and start constructing my beat. After I have a good beat foundation, I’ll start thinking about the melody line and harmonies.”
Some of her inspiration comes from Beyoncé’s vocal arrangements and mission to empower women and black people. A few others are: Ella Fitzgerald’s ease and attention to detail, Lianne La Havas’ lyricism and unique vocal timbre; and Homeshake’s naturalist, yet futuristic approach to music production.
“I’d love to work with Lianne La Havas one day! Her song writing capabilities are out of this world.”
Over the next 5 to 10 years, the goal is to continue to release music, develop her musicianship, and hope to get into medical school!
“I want to become an Otolaryngologist (ENT) and am currently working towards a Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Pre-Medicine in preparation for med school.”
“I’m really into physics, so I read a lot of music-science books, but outside of music I like weightlifting, dancing, and trying new foods.”
Favorite Shower Song:
“My favorite song to sing in the shower is Vision of Love by Mariah Carey.”
